| Deluge sets the way for great fishing! The native fishermen are about to head into a great time of the year. Warm weather, perfect water temperatures and active fish are all part of autumn fishing. Some exceptional catches of cod can be had at places like Mulwala, Blowering and the local river once the rain clears.
Old Man Creek fished well for our new team member Matt Kanck last week. He trolled small Stumpjumper lures behind his kayak managing 4 yellowbelly and a trout cod. It’s fairly shallow but there are lots of places to try so look for deeper holes with lots of structure. Spinnerbaits are another good choice of lure to try. Red/black and purple skirts with Colorado blades are the best options.
The Murrumbidgee River was great for us last Saturday with most of the fish we caught falling to the ever reliable cheese cubes. With the rain over the last few days the river will be high and dirty for a while but once it clears it will come on again.
If you managed to go out to the lake on Sunday afternoon after the days deluge, you would have seen the massive amount water that was flowing down the gully near the boat club. It was like an overflowing waterfall putting some much needed water into the lake. Every creek or gully was running a banker. All good for the future of the lake, we just hope it will continue to fill.
The trout anglers out there should be heading to Eucumbene this weekend or as soon as they can get there. From all reports this dam is fishing very well. One lucky angler bagged out each session over two days trolling Y82 and y90 Tassie Devils in around 6 metres of water. Most fish came from the Old Adaminaby area and the best times were early morning and late afternoon when the fish were close to the surface. Rainbow trout up to 4lb were common but browns were few and far between.
The His and Hers Partners competition at Mulwala is on in a couple of weeks. This is a very social weekend for the lady anglers amongst us and well worth entering. Entry forms and all the information that you’ll need are available from Wagga Fishing World.
